📍 Location / address entry
The "Find your politicians" tool on the home page maps your address to your state and congressional district so we can show the candidates on your ballot. You don't have to type your full street address — entering just your 5-digit ZIP code is enough to find your statewide candidates, and is the more private option if you'd rather not share more than that. When the "look up my exact congressional district" box is ticked, whatever you typed (address or ZIP) is sent to the free US Census Bureau geocoder — a US government service — which returns the district. We never send it anywhere else, and we never store it on our servers.
Untick that box and the lookup runs entirely offline in your browser: only the ZIP code is extracted
locally and matched to a state, with no network request at all — the most private way to use this
tool. Either way, the result (address, ZIP, state, district) is saved to localStorage
on your device so other pages can use it. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
The separate, full Pick-a-Pol app has its own address lookup used to find your ballot districts; see its in-app Privacy page for details on how that address is handled.
🎮 Statement Matcher game data
Your score, high score, and round progress are stored only in your browser's localStorage
and are never sent to a server.
